From a Northwest Wedding Planning perspective, we loved the idea of Northwest moss in a shallow bowl as a wedding centerpiece. That’s likely to save some money off of flower arrangements and has the potential to save the environment
Consider using your computer and making your own invitations. You can buy unprinted invitations at stationary stores. You can also go to a paper store and find the perfect papers to go with your wedding theme. Then just look online for some examples of invitation wording and make your own.
To be more environmentally friendly, use recycled paper.
Flowers can be an expensive part of the ceremony and reception. Seasonal items can be a great way to decorate without breaking the flower budget. If you are thinking of having flowers as centerpieces, consider season fruits and vegetables. You can go as plain or as fancy as you want, although realize that lovely fruit bowls with chopped fruit or designer center pieces with fruit created to look like flowers will get expensive.
Plain fruit bowls with herbs can be lovely. In summer, try grapes and summer fruits. In the fall, gords are wonderful as are pumpkins. You can even decorate the pumpkins. In spring, consider strawberries in dishes.
An advantage to the fruit? It can be eaten and is very green.
Check with a local florist that you hope to work with on flowers that locally in season. The more you can buy locally, the more environmentally sound your wedding will be. These flowers will also typically be cheaper.
If you florist doesn’t ever buy local, then it might be worthwhile to shop around a little to find someone who does.
