Also understand your level of competence. Price it out doing it yourself and having someone else do it. The cost may not be worth it to do them all yourself.

One small area that can save some money on the invitations is by avoiding the engraving. There are other techniques that can make your invitations look great. However, in this day and age, very few people will even notice if you just go with a nice looking ink.

Many brides look at invitation sets and feel they need to have the invitation, the inner envelope, the reception card and envelope and one large outer envelope.

Depending upon the formality of your wedding, you may not need the inner envelope.  This can save you money if you must order these separately.

Also, depending upon your ceremony and reception the people you are inviting, consider whether you need an RSVP card.   Perhaps you can add a line on the invitation that suggests that people respond via email or via a text message.  Both of these will lower your cost (if you have unlimited texting) because you’ll be purchasing fewer “parts” for your invitations.

Consider using your computer and making your own invitations. You can buy unprinted invitations at stationary stores.   You can also go to a paper store and find the perfect papers to go with your wedding theme.  Then just look online for some examples of invitation wording and make your own.

To be more environmentally friendly, use recycled paper.
